Academic Advisory Council

The Academic Advisory Council to the Federal Office offers advice and supports the research carried out by the Federal Office. The committee was formed in 2005 and has a multi-disciplinary orientation, being composed of recognised academics.

Appointment to the committee is for a two-year period, which can be extended. The Academic Advisory Council meetings take place twice a year.

The responsibilities of the Academic Advisory Council

  • Factual recommendations on research concepts and research priorities
  • Providing support in theoretical and methodical questions of migration and integration research, as well as in evaluating the results of the work,
  • Promoting cooperation with researchers and research facilities covering the same and neighbouring areas of knowledge, as well as with practitioners, and
  • Advising on identifying new areas of research and in discussing of new methodical developments

  • Prof. em. Dr. Hailbronner, Professor at the University of Konstanz, Subject area Law
  • Prof. Dr. Koopmans, Director of the research unit Migration, Integration, Transnationalization at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB)
  • Prof. Dr. Roche, Professor at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich, Institute for German as a Foreign Language
