The President

The President of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees Dr Manfred Schmidt

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has been managed by Dr Manfred Schmidt, a lawyer, since 1 December 2010.

Dr Manfred Schmidt was born in 1959 in Frankfurt am Main.

After studying law at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University and taking his doctorate, he was employed at the Federal Ministry of the Interior from 1990 to December 2010.

After undertaking assignments in the Administrative Organisation Directorate-General, particularly in the area of the municipal property of the new Federal Länder, in management and in the Organisation Division of the Ministry, he was appointed as the head of the Budget Division in 1997 and then later assumed the role of budget commissioner.

Following his duties as Permanent Representative of the Head of Central Directorate-General, he took on the overall management of the Central Directorate-General in 2004.

He headed the Crisis Management and Civil Protection Directorate-General at the Federal Ministry of the Interior from December 2007 to December 2010.

Dr Schmidt has been the President of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees since 1 December 2010.
