A large authority such as the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees can only run efficiently if it has a multi-layered organisational structure. The Federal Office is subdivided into directorates-general, directorates and divisions.
The Federal Office is represented in all Federal Länder as it has a decentralised structure with 22 Branch offices. The Branch offices implement the asylum policy, coordinate integration in the regions and undertake migration work.
The tasks of commissioners employed at the Federal Office cover the areas of equality of men and women, the compatibility of work and family, protecting people from sexual harassment in the workplace, compliance with legal data protection rules, security of information and provisions against corruption.
