Area of activity – education: implementation
Here you will find information about the implementation of the recommendations of the nationwide integration programme in the education area of activity.
To test selected recommendations relating to "teachers with an immigrant background", the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees supported the following activities:
Pupil campus and network
At the pupil campus "More immigrants are becoming teachers" at the Zeit-Stiftung in Nuremberg held from 12 to15 March 2010, thirty prospective Abitur candidates with an immigrant background learned about training to be a teacher and the teaching profession. The participants were looked after by a committed group of teachers with immigrant backgrounds from Bavaria. These teachers have formed a network and will continue to be mentors to the successful pupils following the pupil campus event.
Federal conference
At the beginning of March 2010 approximately 200 participants at the Federal conference "Lehrkräfte mit Migrationshintergrund", held in Paderborn, discussed the advantages offered by the migration-related resources of teaching staff with an immigrant background. During the academic session, current research results were presented in relation to educational careers, conditions for studying, and impact analyses of having teachers with an immigrant background. In the practical sessions, participants learned about existing approaches to increasing the proportion of teachers with an immigrant background and discussed the options for maintaining this trend.
Collection of examples
As part of an authors' workshop, a collection of examples demonstrating the significance of specific resources offered by teachers with an immigrant background was compiled. The aim is to further develop the perception of the profession for teachers with an immigrant background. In addition, the aim is to make visible their contribution to the intercultural development of lessons and school, and to encourage school management teams to increase their acceptance and practical use of these resources. The collection of examples can be viewed at http://www.stuttgart.de/img/mdb/item/393070/54578.pdf.
