The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees makes decisions about asylum applications including granting refugee status (sec. 5 subs. 1 of the Asylum Procedure Act). As soon as an asylum application has been made, the Federal Office decides whether subsidiary protection is to be granted.
Asylum and migration are by definition international topics. The logical implication for the Federal Office is establishing firm networks and exchanges with partner authorities and organisations, as well as direct placement of staff abroad.
Language is key to successful integration. This is why, with the entry into force of the Immigration Act, a minimum framework of state integration programmes was created with the integration course at its core.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees is running the German language for professional purposes programme during the funding period 2007-2013. The programme will be funded through the European Social Fund.
