European Return Fund (RF)
The European Return Fund (RF) was set up in 2007 by the European Union. The implementation, administration and management of the fund in Germany falls into the area of responsibility held by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
The RF is dedicated to projects and measures supporting migrants to return to their home country. This support can take many forms - perhaps taking on the costs and management of preparing for the journey, transport, advice or providing initial help in the home country.
This applies above all when those involved have voluntarily decided to return home permanently. But migrants affected by return measures are not "left on their own" but can also obtain help as part of RF projects.
Over the following pages we provide detailed information about the European Return Fund and the respective services offered by the Federal Office. There are also descriptions and illustrations of the projects which have received funding.
