The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has a range of tasks and its responsibilities covers a wide spectrum. Apart from its core responsibility of considering applications for asylum and providing protection for refugees, it is also the driving force behind national integration measures for migrants and those with migrant backgrounds. Its present remit also covers the relatively new field of migration research. These tasks require a close Co-operation between various authorities and institutions.
