MILo database enables effective information management

The MILo (Migration Info Logistics) database is based on internet technology standards and offers the user differentiated and specific access and editing rights to a multitude of sources, chiefly asylum files. The database contains judgements and court decisions, enquiries and orders for taking of evidence in asylum matters, and official information from the German Foreign Office, as well as "anonymised" professional advice and third-party comments about these enquiries, e.g. from Amnesty International, university institutes, and the Gesellschaft für bedrohte Völker (Society for Threatened Peoples).

MILo has replaced the previous ASYLIS system and is the basis for the transition from a document-oriented library and documentation system to an information and knowledge management system. With MILo, a customisation of the LiveLink software – a platform for archiving and editing of documents, projects, graphic objects, team work, and so on - data management is much simpler. One system is enough for both publicly available and restricted-use data.

Among the comprehensive and constantly growing English-language collection are:

  • Analyses and reports from the UNHCR (The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees – barrier-free) and the IOM (International Organisation for Migration)
  • The renowned database of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB), which we have also added
  • EU documents
  • Reports of the US Department of State
  • Analyses and reports from partner authorities (e.g. from the UK or The Netherlands, etc.)
  • As well as documents from European partner authorities.

MILo is a "BundOnline" project within the framework of Federal Government's e-government initiative.
