Putting people first: providing security, creating opportunities, embracing change

Asylum-seekers are re-distributed via the "relocation" procedure from EU Member States whose asylum and reception systems are under particular pressure – as is the case at present in Greece and Italy – to other Member States, and go through the asylum procedure there. This is to help achieve a fair distribution of asylum-seekers within Europe. The relocation procedure is contingent on the asylum-seekers coming from countries of origin where the average recognition rate in the EU is at least 75 %.

Hervorhebung_Gesetzgebung: The legal basis

The current procedure is based on EU decisions 2015/1523 of 14 September 2015 and 2015/1601 of 22 September 2015.
