Procedure

The administrative office of the European Social Fund (ESF) is located at the Cologne branch of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. It selects the providers who carry out the courses in German for professional purposes funded by the ESF.

Procedure stage 1

This branch of the BAMF selects the project providers, mostly with co-operation partners, for the 122 support areas. They may now run ESF-BAMF courses until 31 December 2013.

Procedure stage 2

The project provider selected by the BAMF prepares the German for professional purposes courses together with the participants assigned to it. The Employment Agency and the Social Security office should advise potential participants and, if necessary, refer them with a pro-forma application form (registration form) to the project provider. It is also possible for participants to contact the project providers themselves.

The project provider carries out a skills assessment with potential participants to ascertain their learning needs, qualifications, language level and language and qualification requirements. Once the provider has a sufficient number of course participants, it can apply for a specific language course.

Financing ESF-BAMF courses

The courses are funded by the ESF. The co-funding required at national level may be secured from government social funds and/or public funds available to Länder and local authorities and from private capital resources.
