Programmes for ethnic German resettlers

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees funds the "Identity and Integration PLUS" programme in accordance with sec. 9, subs. 4 of the Federal Expellees Act (BVFG). It builds on the integration course and above all deals with the specific situations and needs of ethnic German resettlers.

200 lessons and individual subjects

Ethnic German resettlers aged 16 and above have been allowed to attend the "Identity and Integration PLUS" courses since 2006. The course comprises 200 lessons. In addition to some specified subjects, course providers can adapt other selected topics to suit the group of attendees.

Family members can attend the courses if they immigrated with an ethnic German resettler and in accordance with the Residence Act (sec. 8 subs. 2 of the BVFG). The intention is to make integration easier through the family unit. The number of attendees per course is between 12 and 20.

Programme content

Ethnic German resettlers will look at various topics, including

  • issues surrounding their specific identity
  • problems and opportunities in tackling everyday life in their new environment
  • education system issues in Germany
  • possibilities and opportunities in the German labour market including routes into self-employment.

Course providers

Course providers are organisations and associations, institutions for expellees, recognised providers of political education, and local communities.

Interested course providers can apply by 31 December of a given year. The electronic application procedure "easy-AZA" provided by the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V (DLR) is available for this purpose.

In the electronic application, please do not refer to the appendices but summarise the content of such appendices, as the electronic application will be imported into a database system.

A Federal Office for Migration and Refugees hotline is available on 0911/943-6666 to answer queries about the electronic application process.

And this is how it works:

Using the following link, you will be directed to the relevant download area. Please follow the instructions there and download the AZA set-up version compatible with your operating system.

Software Download "easy-AZA"

Then run the setup file from the directory that you have specified as the target directory for the download. The installation process will continue with dialog prompts. At the end of the installation process, please click on the newly installed "easy-AZA" symbol on your desktop.

The button "I would like to make a new application to:" opens the corresponding list of options on the start page. Please select the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees as the recipient of the application. A pdf document explaining the submission guidelines will then open in your browser. Select the option "Integration support programme for ethnic German resettlers in accordance with section 9, para. 4 of the BVFG".

Before completing the electronic application form, you must print out the submission instructions and complete the application according to these submission guidelines. Please ensure that you only complete the sections specified in the submission guidelines.

Where should I send the application to?

The system generates and saves two files (one file with a cryptic file designation and the extension .aza and a pdf file). Please send the AZA file by e-mail to projektfoerderung@erv.bamf.bund.de.

For legal reasons only the hard copy of the application is binding. Therefore, please print out the pdf document generated by the system and send the legally binding, signed application together with all additional documentation to the following address:
