Accreditation of teaching staff for integration courses
hecEmploying qualified teaching staff is a basic requirement for ensuring the success of integration courses. These teachers have high levels of teaching and intercultural skills and high levels of specialist qualifications.
Legal foundation
Staff who teach German as a Second Language on the integration course must have successfully completed studies in German as a Foreign Language or German as a Second Language (sec. 15, subs. 1 of the Ordinance on Integration Courses [IntV]).
If a teacher does not have these specialist qualifications, he or she can be accredited only after attending an additional qualification course specified by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (sec. 15, subs. 2 of IntV).
Since 1 January 2010, only teachers who have a final accreditation from the Federal Office in accordance with sec. 15 subs. 1 or 2 of the IntV have been allowed to teach on integration courses.
Accreditation process
The accreditation of teachers is carried out centrally by the Federal Office. You can submit an application though a course provider that has been accredited by the Federal Office.

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees makes a decision based on the documents submitted and informs the applicant of its decision in writing.
Teachers who have completed a DaF/DaZ course in Germany are accredited immediately (sec. 15, subs. 1 of the Ordinance on Integration Courses [IntV])
Teachers who cannot prove having completed such a course but who fulfil the accreditation criteria for the additional qualification must attend an additional qualification course. (sec. 15 subs. 2 of IntV).
The Federal Office also decides in these cases if applicants must complete a short additional qualification course (70 lessons) or a complete additional qualification course (140 lessons). Applicants will receive a list of institutions from the Federal Office that are authorised to offer the additional qualification.
