Putting people first: providing security, creating opportunities, embracing change

Information Centre for Voluntary Return (ZIRF)

The Information Centre for Voluntary Return offers reliable data in a comprehensive database on the infrastructure, economic situation or healthcare available, including in individual towns and cities or regions in the countries of origin:

  • national and international assisted return programmes,
  • information on more than 100 countries of origin,
  • answers to specific enquiries regarding the individual countries of origin, and
  • information material from the return counselling centres nationwide.

Return counselling centres can make specific enquiries regarding the individual countries of origin via ZIRF counselling.
Counselling covers a large number of topics and countries:

  • economic infrastructure,
  • the local housing and job market,
  • medical care, and
  • basic and further training available.

All the country-specific information, the query forms and any queries which may already have been answered that were submitted via ZIRF counselling are available on the ReturningfromGermany.de information portal (see right-hand column).
Prospective returnees should please address their individual questions to a return counselling centre.

The Information Centre for Voluntary Return was established at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees in July 2003 in connection with the new tasks for promoting voluntary return and return management.

Warning!

There have been several occasions very recently in which people have pretended to be employees of the Federal Office and asked for an interview at which they questioned asylum applicants intensively. This took place in some cases on the pretext that a second hearing was allegedly needed. Important: The Federal Office does not conduct home visits! These individuals do not work for the Federal Office. The Federal Office has therefore filed criminal charges. If something similar happens to you, or if you observe anything of this nature as a carer, please report this to your local police station.Interviewers from reputable survey institutes who are currently conducting interviews as part of research projects in which data are collected on a voluntary basis clearly state who they are working for. They also give the name of the survey institute and prove this by showing the appropriate documentation. This means that you can make enquiries should you have any doubts.
