Careers advice

To find suitable work in Germany you must be proactive. Training takes place within the dual system for many occupations (particularly in the crafts and commercial spheres): This means that training is provided in-company (practical section) and in vocational schools (theory).

The careers information centres (BIZ) in the employment agencies offer a lot of information about the different professions in Germany, the tasks involved and the necessary qualifications. The staff at the employment agency will also provide you with advice and help you to find the right job or start an apprenticeship in Germany.

There are employment agencies all over Germany. You will need to find out which one is responsible for the region in which you live. You will find the website of the Federal Employment Agency useful when looking.

Wichtige Mitteilung

There have been several occasions very recently in which people have pretended to be employees of the Federal Office and asked for an interview at which they questioned asylum applicants intensively. This took place in some cases on the pretext that a second hearing was allegedly needed. Important: The Federal Office does not conduct home visits! These individuals do not work for the Federal Office. The Federal Office has therefore filed criminal charges. If something similar happens to you, or if you observe anything of this nature as a carer, please report this to your local police station.
