Assistance for families in crisis

If a family argument gets out of hand and even results in violence, you should ask for professional help. There are many advisory centres in Germany that will help you with problems in your family. All these advisory centres are free of charge, and the employees there will help you quickly and efficiently – even if you do not want to give your name.

display as attention: Important information

All children in Germany have the right to be brought up without experiencing violence. As a result, all children, above all babies and young children, rely on our being attentive. If you are concerned that a child might be being neglected or mistreated, please contact the police, the social services and a parenting support centre.

Call the free ‘Violence Against Women’ helpline on 08000-116-016 if you need to talk, or for the contact details of women’s advice centres, emergency services and women’s refuges. It’s open around the clock, and you don’t even have to give your name. If you need an interpreter, the helpline can offer assistance in fifteen different languages.

Warning!

There have been several occasions very recently in which people have pretended to be employees of the Federal Office and asked for an interview at which they questioned asylum applicants intensively. This took place in some cases on the pretext that a second hearing was allegedly needed. Important: The Federal Office does not conduct home visits! These individuals do not work for the Federal Office. The Federal Office has therefore filed criminal charges. If something similar happens to you, or if you observe anything of this nature as a carer, please report this to your local police station.
