Workshop of experts on irregular migration
On 30 June 2011 the German EMN Contact Point at the Federal Office for Migration hosted a workshop of experts on "irregular migration" to prepare the German country report for the EMN study "Practical Measures to Reduce Irregular Migration". The study looks at methods to prevent and avoid irregular migration and illegal stays of migrants in the EU Member States.
Representatives of several member organisations of the national EMN network contributed to the workshop including the Hamburg Institute for Social Research, the Network Migration in Europe, the German Federal Police and the Federal Criminal Police. In addition to the network partners the Foreigners Authorities of the cities of Nürnberg and Munich, the Expert Council of the German Foundation for Integration and Migration as well as experts from the Federal Office for Migration participated.
Exchange on "Irregular Migration": the experts attending the EMN Workshop
The discussions centred on the quantitative data available on illegal migrants and the methods to estimate these as well as on border security and administrative cooperation on border security, the prevention of illegal entry or transit and returns within the EU and with third countries. Further topics were fake marriages, fake paternities and possibilities to overcome the illegal status.
The workshop’s many interesting results and insights will enrich the EMN study that will be prepared in 2011.
