Assistance for refugees
There are more than 16 million refugees in the world at the moment. Some of them seek protection within the EU. The European Programme for Integration and Migration (EPIM) promotes aid projects for asylum-seekers and refugees.
They have had to leave their country for a variety of reasons and are now looking for protection within the European Union. They have temporary residence status or no residence status at all, are waiting for the outcome of their asylum proceedings or have been rejected. They are refugees, asylum-seekers or illegal migrants.
A large number of non-governmental organisations from EU countries have combined in the European Programme for Integration and Migration (EPIM). Their goal is to support these people as well as possible and to endeavour to enact policies which guarantee treatment respecting human rights and a minimum of social security to each refugee, regardless of their origin and residence status.
To this end, the EPIM offers specific financial support for aid projects. In the context of the “2012 Call for Proposals”, non-governmental non-profit organisations and associations are able to apply for EPIM project funding in this year too.
Projects have to focus on at least one of the following target groups:
- asylum-seekers,
- migrants living illegally/unofficially in an EU State,
- refugees who are particularly affected by social marginalisation.
Applications must be received by 1 March 2012. Project funding can be granted up to an amount of € 300,000 over a period of three years.
