Cover of four studies of the European Migration Network

A major part of the activities of the European Migration Network lies in the implementation or where appropriate commissioning of research studies. The primary goal is to cover and evaluate existing research in the Member States. The National Contact Points draft comparative research studies on jointly-agreed subjects which are topical and relevant at national and European level. The Federal Office works in this field of activity with its German network partners.

The results of the individual country studies are to be compiled in a European synthesis report and published by the European Commission.

In the pilot phase of the EMN (2004-2007), the German Contact Point participated in several studies:

  • The influence of immigration on German society,
  • Third-state nationals illegally resident in Germany: State incentives, profile and social situation,
  • Return from Germany.

Various small-scale studies were also drafted:

  • Reception systems, their capacities and the social situation of asylum applicants within the German reception system,
  • Labour market participation of foreigners in the healthcare sector in Germany,
  • Immigration and residence of highly-qualified and high-ranking employees from third states – The situation in Germany,
  • Family reunification in Germany.

You will find all the studies under downloads in the adjacent service box.

For the first year of the full operation of the EMN, which has been underway since 2008, studies are planned on the organisation of the national migration and asylum system, as well as on reception conditions for unaccompanied minor asylum-seekers.
