Since 2012, the Advice Centre on Radicalisation at the BAMF has been reachable by telephone as the first point of call for individuals seeking advice where they are concerned that someone they know may be becoming radicalised towards Islamism. The Advice Centre supports enquirers calling in from all over the country, and can be reached on working days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The first telephone call involves experienced, specially-trained staff members exploring the caller's concerns, offering initial assistance and pointing to a local advice agency in the respective Federal Land. The staff of the Advice Centre on Radicalisation answer frequently-asked questions on the topics of radicalisation and Islamism, and they point callers to assistance available, for instance in local self-help groups.

The stages of the advice process

  1. Enquirers phone in to the hotline of the Advice Centre on Radicalisation (Tel.: +49 911 943 43 43).
  2. The Advice Centre on Radicalisation explores the issues with the caller and develops potential options. (If the case is relevant in terms of security, the caller is referred to contacts in the security authorities).
  3. Should the caller so wish, he or she is pointed to more detailed advice available from one of our cooperation partners close by. These for instance offer systemic advice, mediation, communication coaching, specialist advice and educational guidance.

Over and above advising individuals seeking assistance on the telephone, the Advice Centre offers a variety of exchange formats within a network that has been established by the Federation, the Länder and civil society. This enables the experts from the Advice Centre to engage in an intensive exchange on specific issues with the various players in deradicalisation, thus enabling them to continually expand the range of advice on offer.
The Centre furthermore works closely with the BAMF's Research Centre, which provides academic assistance to the Advice Centre on Radicalisation and its cooperation partners.
