The Country of Origin Information Desk , format: Article, area: Authority

The COI Desk (Country of Origin Information Desk; Informationsvermittlungsstelle (IVS)) carries out research on country-specific information in the Federal Office's MILo database and in external databases. On request the acquired research and documents are made available.

Country of Origin Information (COI) refers to information on humanitarian issues and human rights or socio-economic, legal and political information in regard to countries of origin, transit or return countries used in asylum procedures.

It is mainly the staff of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees who benefit from the services of the COI Desk, but external queries are handled as well. Authorised lawyers may for instance send an e-mail to request documents that are quoted from in asylum decisions. They can be provided with situation reports on pending sets of proceedings on request.
