The KoSiZu carries out the following tasks:
- supporting the establishment of a nationwide network of contacts for security authorities and stakeholders in the Muslim community,
- establishing national and international exchange and cooperation formats,
- implementing targeted promotional activities relating to cooperation between the security authorities and stakeholders in the Muslim community,
- supporting training and further training projects of the security authorities,
- being contacts for interested members of the public.
Mutual trust of and knowledge about one another form the basis for police authorities and Muslim organisations working well together in Germany. The Cooperation Network – Living together safely (KoSiZu) at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) establishes an exchange between the two parties. Initiating, stepping up and promoting dialogue between the security authorities and stakeholders from the Muslim community is the core task of the Network.
Topics such as religious extremism, anti-Muslim sentiment and security around mosques pose considerable challenges to our society. The dialogue on security that the KoSiZu has initiated enables for instance local police stations to work with local mosque communities on an exchange concerning current topics, and to develop joint strategies.
The Cooperation Network was founded in March 2008 as the Prevention and Cooperation Clearing Point through a resolution adopted by the German Islam Conference (DIK). The KoSiZu operates at national level, and aims to establish a network of security authorities and Muslim stakeholders in Germany, as well as to promote dialogue by establishing common exchange formats. The KoSiZu furthermore helps in the implementation of cooperation projects that are beneficial to the dialogue. This means that it creates the basis for effective teamwork between police authorities at Federal and Land level and mosque associations, or with other places in which Muslim life is practiced.
