The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has been playing an active role in digital transformation for years and understands digitalization as more than just the conversion of IT processes and programs. It is about much more; it is about the methods used and the development of a new culture of thinking and working.
A digital authority examines and optimizes its processes and workflows, thereby establishing new approaches. This was demonstrated as early as 2017 with the establishment of the IT laboratory at the BAMF, which created a space in which new methods could be used to work on the agency's IT projects.
However, developments in technology and in the world of work are progressing rapidly. In the face of all these changes, the focus is on people. It is the personal skills and abilities of individual employees that make projects successful. In order to do justice to these developments, the BAMF's IT lab was updated and converted into the I-LAB in 2023. The I-LAB is available to all employees to work together successfully in an inspiring environment, to leave conventions behind and thus create an important added value for society.
