The Federal Office conducts academic research into migration and integration issues in order to gain analytical information enabling immigration management. The tasks to be done include analysis, evaluation and providing advice to policy-makers.

The Brief Analysis 1|2024 examines gender differences in the acquisition of German language skills by refugees who came to Germany between 2013 and 2019. The data is based on the first six waves of the IAB-BAMF-SOEP survey of refugees, which were conducted between 2016 and 2021.

The accompanying research project "Development of skilled labour migration and effects of the fast-track procedure for skilled workers" was carried out in 2021 and 2022 and aimed to provide an overview of the development of skilled labour immigration since the FEG came into force and to determine how the new regulations have been applied, what challenges still exist and whether this makes skilled labour immigration to Germany more attractive.

Research Report 43 investigates the incidence of COVID-19 and vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 among persons with and without experience of migration.

Life after return: Long-term reintegration after assisted departure from Germany

Research Report 42 analyses the long-term reintegration of migrants who left Germany and received assistance from the federal government's "StarthilfePlus" programme. The Research Centre of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) conducted interviews with returnees in several countries.
