Good to know!

Irrespective of the purpose of your stay, a visa is required as a matter of principle in order to enter Germany. You can obtain a visa from the German diplomatic mission in your home country (Embassy or Consulate). This visa then allows you to enter Germany. After entering the country, if you plan to stay in Germany beyond the the visa’s period of validity, you must apply for a residence title in good time from the immigration authority where you live. You can read more on this in “Entry regulations”.
