Prevention and de-radicalisation are key components of the holistic approach to counter-terrorism in Germany. This includes exit programmes and counselling for those in the environment of Islamist radicalised persons. In practice, state and non-state agencies work closely together for this purpose.
Since 2012, the Federal Office has run the "Radicalisation" counselling centre and the pertinent hotline, which is an established nationwide point of contact for de-radicalisation/prevention in the field of Islamism. In close cooperation with the authorities and civil society structures of the Länder, the counselling centre serves as a central interface.
Due to the organisational location of the "Radicalisation" Advice Centre at the "Security" department within the Federal Office, it is also linked to the Joint Counter-Terrorism Centre (GTAZ) in Berlin. As such, the Federal Office takes into account the Federal Government's holistic approach to combating terrorism.
