The country report addresses the current situation in Angola. President João Lourenço has been in power since 2017. He is continuing the governing tradition of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) party. President José Eduardo dos Santos had previously led the country as head of the MPLA from 1979 to 2017. President Lourenço promised change and is also focusing on certain problems, such as the fight against the widespread corruption. At the same time, the government is continuing the decades-long practice of state repression. The country's economic wealth is not being adequately shared with the population. This report provides an overview of the general social, political, economic and human rights situation in the country.
