The German report for the Research Study 2005 provides a detailed stocktake of the present state of knowledge on the field of topics concerned with “Illegality” in Germany. It investigates the question of how to deal with third-state nationals illegally resident in Germany, without disregarding the question why. The report focuses on the legal framework and the methods used by the state towards this group of individuals. Moreover, information is provided on the data available, the social and economic situation of illegal immigrants, as well as the economic impact of illegal migration. Additionally, the study contains an Annex which lists authorities and institutions, associations, NGOs and networks dealing (amongst other things) with people who have no residence status.
