The National Prevention Programme against Islamist Extremism (NPP) provided for support through research, and for the evaluation of the measures funded by the Federation. The Research Centre of the BAMF commissioned an effectiveness-orientated evaluation of two advice centres funded by the Federation, the "Green Bird Advisory Centre", and the "Cross-border advice network". The evaluation was conducted from July 2021 to June 2022 by Camino – Werkstatt für Fortbildung, Praxisbegleitung und Forschung im sozialen Bereich GGMBH and Modus – Zentrum für angewandte Deradikalisierungsforschung GGMBH (modus|zad).

The evaluation was intended to learn about the measures which have proven successful in the advisory process, and how they can be transferred into best practices. It focussed on the following question: What works for whom, when, how, and under what conditions? This evaluation also involved the development of a "Dimension Model of Successful Distancing". The model can be used to observe, structure and reflect on the success of advisory work in individual distancing processes. This led to the creation of a highly-practical model which transparently mirrors advisory practice and can be used to document and evaluate day-to-day work.
