The Research Centre of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF-FZ) conducted a project on a possible nexus between migration and radicalisation. The aim was to compile a literature-based overview of existing research on the question of whether a connection between migration and radicalisation can be established.

As part of the research project, the German-language literature, primarily from the last ten years, was reviewed and examined with regard to a possible connection between migration and radicalisation. As an implicit or explicit connection is often made in media reporting, the project investigates whether reliable data and evidence can be found for these statements within existing research.

The Brief Analysis 4|2024 summarises the results of the research project. In addition to the question of whether there is a nexus between migration and radicalisation, the implications that can go hand in hand with the assumption of such a nexus are highlighted and research gaps that can contribute to clarifying this topic are pointed out.
